Notice of the Annual General Meeting
of Ontario Region Schutzhund Association
This is to advise you of the upcoming annual general meeting of the members of Ontario Region Schutzhund Association. The details of this meeting are as follows:
Date: June 2, 2017
Time: 6 pm
Place: Capital City Schutzhund, Concession Road 8, Claremont
If you have anything that you wish to add to the agenda, please forward it to Dwyn Tomlinson (email@example.com) by May 26 for inclusion in the agenda.
A club or clubs wishing to host the Regional Championship Trial, Show and Breed Survey for 2018 should apply to the Regional Board BEFORE the AGM. If there is more than one application, the members present at the AGM will vote on the decision. The next year’s host will be announced at the AGM.
We apologize for the shortened notice. If you would like to object – please let us know now, but the board felt that keeping it on the expected date would be less of a surprise than moving it and inconveniencing everyone by adding another event to their schedule.
Thank you and we look forward to seeing you there.

Show Coordinators and Secretaries please take note. There has been a change to the policy governing all Sieger Shows (GSSCC Conformation Shows).
The new policy is:
61(e) Entrants (owners and handlers) for all dogs entered in all the classes (male and female) for any Sieger Show (Club, Region or Canadian Championship) must be members of the GSSCC or a WUSV affiliate club. All Canadian residents must be GSSCC members.
Previously, the entrants for the puppy and young dog classes did not have to be GSSCC members – but paid an extra $5.00 fee if they were not members.
The primary reason for this change is for continued insurance coverage and to ensure the GSSCC and the hosting club is covered by insurance in the case of an incident.
Note that if the handler and the owner are not the same person, both will need to be GSSCC members, not just one or the other. In addition, Canadian residents, handlers and owners, must be GSSCC members.
If a dog is co-owned (two or more owners listed) then only one of the owners needs to be a GSSCC member.
It will still be possible to sign up entrants as members of the GSSCC on the day of the show, so be sure to have some forms
handy, or the link to the online sign up
Entrants who are not resident in Canada can be WUSV affliate club members
(i.e. the USCA – United Schutzhund Clubs of America or the GSDCA – German Shepherd Dog Club of America).
If you are planning on importing a dog, this page may be useful to you. Disturbingly – the governing body is the Canadian Food Inspection Agency – but presumably – that is a holdover from the days when it was mostly livestock moving around. Not actually implying that dogs are food. We hope. 😉
Probably the most obvious things you will need to know is about microchips:
Canada does not require a microchip or tattoo identification for dogs imported as personal pets. However, dogs under 8 months of age imported under the commercial category (dogs for retail sale, breeding purposes, show or exhibition, scientific research, dogs in ‘special training status’, and dogs destined for adoption and/or animal welfare organization) must be identified by an electronic microchip.
and rabies vaccines:
Dogs imported into Canada must have all necessary vaccines depending on the age of dog. A dog that is less than 3 months of age at the time of import does not require rabies vaccination. However, proof of a dog’s age must be provided on request.
Please do check the information on the site – which is very well designed – in case of changes/updates to policies.
The USA, however, does require puppies to be vaccinated for rabies before import, and stipulates that puppies under 4 months cannot be vaccinated for rabies – therefore, puppies may not travel to the US under 4 months of age. (CDC – USA)
Congratulation to Jurgen Fischer – new Trial Director in the Ontario Region. Jurgen was elected by acclamation.
Dwyn Tomlinson also retains the position of Secretary Treasurer though acclamation.
The Election Chair would normally announce the election results at our AGM but Lee Hanrahan has graciously stepped aside so that Jurgen Fischer can assume the Trial Director duties immediately. Please send all Trial inquiries to Jurgen moving forward.
We’d like to thank Lee for her service this past year and wish her well with the enormous amount of work that she has for the upcoming National event.
We also welcome Jurgen to the board of directors.
Chair Ontario Region
There is a new bH test (finally!), now available on the GSSCC website.
The written exam is for new handlers (competitors) – those who have already written one of the old exams will not need to write the new one.
The answers are here, as well.
Jennifer & Annie are headed to Austria for the WUSV Universal – if you’d like to help out and support our own Ontario representative – you can kick a few bucks into the pot in her gofundme drive. Remember – every dollar helps, so let’s help send her on her way!
Anyone who ever tried to get married on a major holiday has learned an important lesson. You get better turn-out if you don’t schedule your event to overlap another equally important event!
When scheduling an event – to try and get maximum anticipated turnout – try to pick a weekend that does not have something else going on.
Here is a list of up-coming world level events.
FCI IPO FH 2017 – April 6 – 9
WUSV Universal World Championship 2017, June 9-11, Regau, Austria
FCI IPO World Championship 2017, Sep 14-17
WUSV 2017, Oct 4 – 8
If you have an event coming up that would be of interest to other IPO and dog sport enthusiasts, we can add it to the listing here as a courtesy so that everyone is aware of what is coming up – even if it is a private seminar or non-GSSCC event. And you might even get more entries! Email details to firstname.lastname@example.org.
The German Shepherd Schutzhund Club of Canada (GSSCC) is requesting proposals from interested parties to partner with GSSCC in a Major Sponsorship Agreement.
1. Proposals must be all inclusive.
2. Proposals must be received by February 11, 2017.
3. Proposals must be in electronic form and sent to President Darin Clarke @ email@example.com and GSSCC Director Jack Parsons @ firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Board of Directors will be fully evaluating each proposal for an implementation date of March 1, 2017. If you have any questions or need any clarification please contact Jack Parsons at email@example.com
We thank you in advance for your interest
